A Culture of Excellence
The 20 acre Ambassador Vineyard is located on the Southern slope of Red Mountain. Just below Col Solare, and directly East of Ciel du Cheval, Ambassador lies at approximately 725' above sea level. The vines can be seen from Ambassador Road between Sunset Road and Antinori Way. Planted in 2005, The North block contains Cabernet Franc #56, Syrah clones from Tablas Creek and Joseph Phelps, and Cabernet Sauvignon #4 and #24.
Soil Types and Calcium Carbonate Content %;
Hezel loamy fine sand 9%, Warden silt loam 14%,
The South block was planted in 2006. Here we added Syrah from Joseph Phelps, Grenache from Tablas Creek, Merlot #3, Petite Verdot #2, and Cabernet Sauvignon #8.
Soil Types and Calcium Carbonate Content %; Warden silt loam 14%, Prosser very fine sandy loam 0% and Scooteney silt loam 5%.
Cabernet #32 and #33 are also planted in extremely limited quantities in the South block. These two new clones are hybrids commissioned from Foundation Plant Services at UC Davis in the winter of 2004. These are a virus free version of the Cab #191 from Bordeaux, commonly used in the most venerated Cabernets of Napa and Margaux. These are the only known examples in Washington, and have been used exclusively to propagate a dedicated planting adjacent to Ambassador, called The Annex Vineyard. Soil type is Warden Silt Loam and Calcium Carbonate content is 14%
These Bordeaux and Rhone red grapes are offered for sale to select winemakers.
